Becoming a Nurse
practitioner..

Long-range goal
 Become a successful Nurse Practitioner
(NP)
What is a nurse
Practitioner?
 A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered
nurse (RN) who has completed advanced
education and training. They provide
healthcare services similar to a doctor and
can work independently.
 They Can:
- order tests, develop treatment plans, and
write prescriptions
Midrange Goal
 BECOME A REGISTERED NURSE (RN)

-In order to become an NP. I first have to


become an RN. To be an RN I have to
obtain an Associates degree or A
bachelor Of Science in Nursing degree &
Pass the Nclex exam.
Education requirements
NPs are registered nurses who
have completed a :
B.S.N. & master's in nursing
degree
Examples of required graduate
courses:
pharmacology, physical
assessment, diagnosis, nurse
practitioner skills, psychology and
advanced nursing
physiology and pathophysiology.
The admission requirements for
educational programs include
completion of on-the-job nursing
experience
 UIC university of Illinois in Chicago
-College of nursing

-Scholarships
-Student loan(mandatory)
High school
 Courses:
Chemistry, Biology, physics, Anatomy, &
Algebra.
 Volunteer work
SHORT TERM GOAL
 Become a licensed practical nurse (LPN)
by the end of high school

You have to be a people person and be really
organized.
-What advice would you give a student who is
interested in this career? Be prepared for what
you’re getting into. College was a lot of work but
its all worth it in the end
