Overview:

Through the use of music students will learn more about the process of passing a bill. They will also review what they have learned using strips of paper to put the process in the correct order.

Objectives:
1. Students will improve their knowledge of the process of passing a bill. 2. Students will explore the process of passing a bill through both music and sequencing. 3. Students will review for an upcoming quiz by the use of music and the sequencing puzzle. 4. Students will develop a better understanding of the process that goes into passing a bill in congress.

Activity/Procedures:
This activity will be used as a means of review for an upcoming US Government quiz. The students will use the song and the sequencing puzzle worksheet in order to study/review for the quiz. 1. I will begin by reminding the students of the upcoming US Government quiz. I will then tell them that we are going to spend some time in class reviewing some key concepts that will be found on the quiz. One part of that is the passing of a bill in congress and making it a law. 2. I will then explain that we are going to listen to a song that will help them remember the steps of the process and while doing so we will be using the Bills Path worksheet in order to practice putting the steps in order. 3. I will hand out the music and then start the song. 4. At this time I will have the students work on putting the sequencing worksheet into order while the song plays. 5. When the song has finished we will go over the sequence of the steps in correct order on the board. 6. I will remind the students that this is something they can practice at home in order to review further for the quiz. 7. I will then again ask the students when their quiz will be and what they can do to review for it.

Common Core Standards:

*There are no Common Core Standards for history or social studies at this time. I did however find Wisconsin State Standards in Social Studies and aligned them using those instead. They can be found here http://www.whitelake.k12.wi.us/media/curriculum/elementary/Social%20Studies %20Curriculum.doc.

Identify significant American documents, such as the Constitution. (C.4.2)(ITL B.4.2) Explain the basic purpose of government in American society, recognizing the three levels of government. (C.4.4, C.4.5)

Extensions/Teaching Tips:
Make sure students are working during the time the music is playing. Moving around the room in order to encourage the students, answering their questions, and keeping them on task are a must here. Reiterating the date and content of the quiz will help the students feel more aware of what is on the quiz and better help them prepare.
