Letter of Support for Installing the Approved Bike Lanes on Lansdowne Ave.

To: CC: Councillor Gord Perks (Ward 14), Councillor Ana Bailo (Ward 18) City of Toronto Planning Department, Cycle Toronto

In 2009 and 2010, Toronto City Council approved bike lanes on Lansdowne Ave. in two locations: a) from Bloor St. West to Dupont Ave. and b) south of Dundas St. W. under the rail underpass. The first section provides a crucial north-south linkage to the Annette-Dupont bike lanes, while the southern stretch improves safety on a dangerous and hilly section of road used by many cyclists to reach the shopping plaza at Dundas and Lansdowne. The Lansdowne bike lanes have been approved since 2010, but they remain uninstalled. Last year, for the first time ever, the City of Toronto decreased the net number of bike lanes in the city, yet more and more Torontonians are choosing to use bicycles to navigate the city. Bike lanes make cycling safer, more accessible, and reduce congestion on the roads by decreasing reliance on cars.
