(Live) Gun violence is a regularly debated issue in the United States. The growing number of mass killings and public shootings over the past two years has made an impact in the way government officials are improving security. (V/O) While the extensive use of body scanners, pat-downs, and other security procedures at airports have made us feel safer about flying, these options are not valid for

V/O (MS of Kean University Building) (WS of Students Walking on Campus) (WS of Students Walking In and Out of Buildings at the University) (V/O) Last month, students at Kean University received an alarming message from campus security that a gunman was spotted near the university. Students have mixed reactions about their safety. Senior Derek Ayala, shares his concerns about the methods of communication delivered to students. (O/C) Safe. I dont feel safe at all. Theres no locks on these doors. As soon as I came to the campus, I didnt even see a police officer. I was just walking around town and a fellow student of mine told me what was going on. I didnt even know there was a gunman on campus. Safe.. yeah safe No. Not even a little bit. (V/O) However, not all students share Ayalas view. Senior Tom Schultz feels differently about safety on campus. (V/O) I feel like the safety measures that Kean takes in situations such as the lock down that just happened are pretty good and they communicate with everyone pretty well and you know, overall, I feel pretty safe here. (O/C) While the right to bear arms remains an American tradition, the discussion will continue on what more can be done to strengthen gun control and reduce violence in this country.
