Participation Requirements: Submit your initial post as early in the week as possible. Before the end of the week, respond to at least two of your peers initial posts. Your initial post should not be less than 150 words, and your response posts should not be less than 50 words.
In your responses, ask questions, share experiences, challenge ideas, and help your peers expand their posts and ideas. All posts should be substantiated with references from the textbook, the ITT Tech Virtual Library, or credible websites. In addition, responses to peers must be more than I agree or Good post, as neither of these responses add to the discussion. To earn points for a substantive post, you need to tell your classmates why you agree or disagree with their opinions or positions and why it made a difference to you. You definitely add substantive value to your posts whenever you support your ideas with APA referencing. Be polite and respectful of your classmates opinions. You may disagree but do so in a constructive manner. You are highly encouraged to participate with more than the minimum requirements, as much interaction and knowledge transaction takes place in the forum.

Study Guide Week 1 Read Chapter 3, from your eBook, Managing Information Technology Projects: Applying Project Management Strategies to Software, Hardware, and Integration Initiatives, found in Books24x7 of the ITT Tech Virtual Library. You can access it by visiting the ITT Tech Virtual Library>Books>Books24x7. Type the name of the eBook Managing Information Technology Projects: Applying Project Management Strategies to Software, Hardware, and Integration Initiatives" in the search box, and then hit the "Go" button. This chapter examines how the systems development life cycle fits into the project life cycle and the differences between IT projects and traditional engineering or construction projects. Because one of the principal differences between IT projects and others are the risks involved, a comparison of the risk differences is made in this chapter. Review the topic Creating a Task List in Week 1 online lesson.
Scenario: You have been tasked with the project of upgrading your companys operating systems on all the desktops and laptops. Some of the desktops are at employees homes as they work from home sometimes, and laptops need to attach to the network inside the building and remotely, when in the field. Submit a two to three page assignment, in which you need to: 1. 2. 3. Identify all related tasks and resources needed to complete the scenario. Highlight or specify any measurable deliverables relating to the scenario. Attach a task list with assigned resources from a Microsoft Project file that supports what you have outlined in your paper.
Submission Requirements: Submit your responses in two-to three-pages of a Microsoft Word document. Submit your Microsoft Project document that will include all the tasks, the resources, and the assignment of those resources. Include an APA title page with all work. Adhere to Standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation requirements. Use 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font.
Study Guide Week 1 Evaluation Criteria: Click here to view the grading rubric for this exercise. Your submission will be evaluated against the following criteria using the grading rubric: Did you identify all the tasks involved? Did you identify all dependencies in their task list? Did you identify how the deliverable can be measured and accepted by the customer? Did you ensure all tasks have resources allocated to them? Did you copy and paste the Microsoft project document into the Word document? Does it look professional?

In this project, you will design a complete (high level) network for a fictitious organization. You will have to meet some technical customer requirements, keep the network managed and running at its best performance, and ensure that the network is pretty secure. The design for this network begins by designing the local network, at each of the provided locations, and then connecting all the offices together in an effective Wide Area Network (WAN) Design. The network design will include both voice and data sharing. Microsoft Project will be used as a tool to organize and manage the complete project, and it will include budget and schedule.
This is a practical project that can be used to enhance your resume; it will showcase your expertise in Microsoft Project and Network Design. The knowledge acquired throughout the program at ITT Tech will be reviewed and applied in the project.
Scenario: ABC Company with worldwide offices in the U.S. (San Francisco, Detroit, Washington, Indianapolis, Tampa), Europe (Paris, Liverpool), Japan (Tokyo), and South America (Sao Paulo), is engaged in the development of audio and video special effects for the entertainment and advertising industry. The main design centers are in San Francisco, Detroit, Paris, Tokyo, and Sao Paulo. Corporate Headquarters are in San Francisco. The remaining offices are sales offices. Consider the company to operate on a 24x7 basis, because it is global. Each group is tasked with the following: 1. Design a network structure, which will: a. b. Handle a constant stream of multimedia traffic between offices, with average file sizes being 25MB. Have a desired response time of no more than 5 seconds, from any office to any office, for file transfers of 25MB. c. Have a desired response time of no more than 20 seconds between workstations for data transfer of a file size as big as 50 MB. As in the design centers, multimedia (audio and video) files are the general files worked on and average file sizes are 50MB of combined data.
Study Guide Appendix A d. Include internet access for every location as; ABC Company maintains an intranet with servers in Detroit, Paris, and Tokyo. e. Include a flexible and expandable design to add users to every office, to open additional offices, or acquire new offices by buying smaller companies. 2. 3. Design a telephone system with conferencing, and speed dialing to any location in the company. Design company security (Software, Hardware, Policies, and Procedures).
The project will be introduced in Week 1. The other parts would be due in the following manner: Part 1 is due in Week 2, Part 2 is due in Week 4, Part 3 is due in Week 6, Part 4 is due in Week 8, Part 5 is due in Week 9, and Part 6 is due in Week 10.
Note: During this project, if there is any information that you need and is not specified, you can make your own assumptions, just document what you are assuming or proposing.
Course Objectives Tested: 1. Apply important concepts of project management to the actual Capstone Project proposed for this course. 2. 3. 4. Use Microsoft Office Project to help plan and manage the actual Capstone Project. Analyze the requirements for the Capstone Project. Integrate and apply the knowledge acquired in the program to provide effective technological solutions for given problems. 5. 6. 7. Work in teams on a large-scope project. Document solutions to a problem in detail by applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Present and defend a proposal or implementation in spoken, written, and panel formats in a professional manner. 8. Complete a comprehensive skills assessment for the program of study.
