FS20 Installation
FS20 Installation
Installation Instructions FS20 Firestop Compound is used to seal service penetration openings in floors and masonry walls against the spread of fire for up to 4 hours fire protection. When used in floor openings it is capable of taking light foot traffic (e.g. for maintenance purposes). Plastic services will need to be fitted with intumescent products as specified below.
General
1) Remove all loose material and dust from opening of fire barrier. 2) Fit Permanent Shuttering (50mm thick) or temporary plywood / similar shuttering. 3) Fit FS24 Firestop Collars to all plastic pipes. Ensure that the unit sits on top of the shuttering. After curing, remove the shuttering to reveal bottom edge of collar. Important: Not exposing the edge of the collar can lead to product failure. 4) Remove electrical trunking lids and fill inside with FS22 Firestop Pillows. 5) Remove any pipe insulation where it passes through the depth of the FS20 Firestop Compound. 6) For chilled water pipes, remove pipe insulation where it passes through the seal and replace with an Insulated Fire Sleeve, protruding 15mm each side of the seal. Using foil tape, reinstate the vapour seal. 7) Ensure that ventilation ductwork is fitted with builders work frames and that they are completely sealed within the FS20 Firestop Compound. 8) If unsure about the suitability of any service type, please consult our technical sales office for advice. 9) Add the compound to clean water and mix either by hand or with a power mixer in the recommended ratios.
3) Reinforcing requires 12mm diameter bars placed at a maximum of 200mm centres across the short span only. The bars may be either recessed into the surrounding structure by a minimum of 50mm on both sides or supported on an angle securely fixed to the structure, all positioned approximately 30mm above the bottom surface of the compound to ensure adequate fire protection from below. 4) When pouring, add 1 bag of FS20 Firestop Compound to 12 litres water (2.5:1). Do not mix weaker than 2:1. 5) Mix and pour FS20 Firestop Compound until the required thickness is achieved. Page 1 of 3
6) Existing compound installations can be easily drilled or sawn to allow the provision of additional or replacement services and subsequently resealed.
