Constitutional Framer Paper

American Government
Mr. Smith and Mr. Clodfelter

In this assignment, students will research and write about a Framer of


the Constitution. You will select one of the Framers and research that
person’s background information as well as, and more importantly, the
contributions that person made to the writing of the Constitution. You
will be graded upon the structure and organization of your paper,
the background information you provide and the contributions that
person made at the Constitutional Convention. Your paper should
be 1-2 pages long.

You will have three days in class to research and write your paper. You
will need to use three, separate resources including the
constitutional convention website given here
http://teachingamericanhistory.org/convention

The following outline is a possible way to set up your paper, along with
possible questions to try and answer through the writing process.

I. Structure
a. Introduction
- Show understanding of your person’s importance.
- Introduce some of the background information.
b. Body
c. Conclusion
d. Personal Analysis
- Do you agree with this person’s ideas on particular
issues?
- Was this person well liked by his peers at the
Convention?
- Did he seem to be worthy of being at the
convention or was he out classed?
e. Clear Structure/Organization

II. Personal Background


a. State
- How does the state he’s from impact his political
thoughts?
- Size, Type of Economy
b. Life Experience
- Was the person born in America or in another
country? Does that affect the person’s vision for
America?
c. Education

d. Family
e. Occupation
- Was that person a merchant, a lawyer or a farmer?
How does that person’s occupation affect his
political ideas and issues?

III. Constitutional Convention


a. Oppose/Support the Constitution
b. Constitution Contribution
c. Quotes
- Provide quotes from that individual regarding the
Constitution.
- Provide quotes from other members of the
Convention showing their thoughts on your Framer.
