A couple of hours in the workshop is all that’s needed to turn out a half-dozen of these sturdy hangers — and what household can’t use a few more in each closet? We made ours from 3/4" thick oak, but if made from aromatic cedar, the hangers will help keep the moths at bay. Wooden Coat Hanger Complete Schematic Wooden Coat Hanger Step-by-Step Instruc- tions 1. Cut the 3/4" stock to a width of 6" and a length of 17". 2. Transfer the profile from the drawing to the stock. 3. Use a band or saber saw, and, staying slightly on the waste side, cut out the pro- file. 4. File and sand the profile to the marked line. 5. Equip a router or shaper with a 1/4" radius bit. 6. Round over all the edges to a 1/4" radius. 7. Make the hook from 3/16" diameter steel or brass stock, bending it with a pair of pliers to work the rod into the curved shape. 8. Bore a 3/16" diameter hole to a depth of 1-1/2". 9. Use epoxy to glue the hook in place. 10. Final sand the hanger. 11. Apply two coats of Watco Danish Oil.
