During the spring semester of 2014 I will be completing my 15 week professional student teaching at Plains Elementary School in Timberville, Virginia. Upon completion of my professional student teaching I will be approved for my elementary teaching license and certified to teach preK-6th grade. During my four years in the Teacher Education Program at Bridgewater College I have had the opportunity to work in four different schools in the RCPS district and one school in the HCPS district. I have had the privilege of observing many different teaching styles in hands-on teaching environments. I have also completed over 40 hours of community service at Plains Elementary School that contributed to my learning experience. While at Bridgewater College I created my own teaching philosophy after observing various teachers in their own classroom and studying various teaching philosophies. I personally believe that students have a better opportunity of learning when they are actively engaged in activities they help to choose. I plan on allowing my students to voice their opinions on how they should learn and what type of activities they would prefer to do. I also believe that students learn more when allowed to apply their knowledge during hands-on activities.

I believe I have enough experience in the classroom and have developed enough skills in the past four years to successfully guide students into gaining more knowledge and apply it to the world around them.
