Taught after-school art classes with two fellow students at William DAbate Elementary, a public school in Providence that has limited funding for the arts. Tasks included creating lesson plans, helping with fundraising, organizing materials, and teaching in the classroom. Organized materials and student work, assisted individual students, brainstormed project ideas, and taught a lesson to the class. VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Bike and Build, Rider, Fundraiser Providence, RI to Seattle, WA, Summer 2009 Raised four thousand dollars for affordable housing organizations and rode my bicycle with a group of 31 other riders across the country from Providence, RI to Seattle, WA to raise money and awareness for affordable housing. Gave presentations to local residents about the cause and worked at eight different build sites along the way. Brown Outdoor Leadership Training, Participant, Leader, Base Camp Volunteer Providence, RI 2008-2011 Trained for four months in wilderness skills and group facilitation. Obtained Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification. Led a group of Brown University sophomores on a backpacking trip through the White Mountains and taught outdoor skills along the way. Organized weekly meetings and continued mentoring and advising while back on campus. Helped with preparations and running of the 2010 trips, responded to emergencies, and assisted with evacuations. Commissioned to create a large-scale oil painting for a private home. Hired to design logos and create promotional publications for businesses, using a mix of drawing and computer rendering. Sold artwork to Brown University, The Steamer Trunk gift shop, and to private buyers. Single-Student Art Shows Providence, RI, Fall 2010 Displayed my paintings in two shows at Browns List Art Center. Worked on publicity, organized the gallery space, and hosted a closing reception. Brown University Art House, Member, Head of Publicity Providence, RI, 2008-2010 Resident of Art House, a program house on campus. Helped organize community service and social events. Led the Publicity Committee and created advertisements for Art House events.
