BERNOULLI'S EQUATION:

A Mathematical Model
Ryan Scott
THE ORIGINAL BERNOULLI’S EQUATION
The Variable Place Holder
vΨp

• v is the speed of the fluid flow at any point along the streamline
The Variable Place Holder
vΨp

• Ψ is the gravitational potential

• The gravitational potential is calculated by -

The Variable Place Holder
vΨp

• p is the pressure at the same point as the fluid flow speed (v)
The Variable Place Holder
vΨp

• is the consistent pressure at all points of the fluid

ASSUMPTIONS THAT BERNOULLI MADE ON HIS EQUATION

• The fluid had to be incompressible

• Most gases like air are incompressible at speeds of less than 220 mph. In modern
aviation today, fighter jet can reach speeds near 4000 mph (mach 5.25). However
their is a more advance and complex forms of the equation for compressible gasses,
each made for specific applications.
ASSUMPTIONS THAT BERNOULLI MADE ON HIS EQUATION
(CONT.)

• The streamline can’t have a boundary layer

• For example, in a pipe with any fluid particles flowing; the fastest flowing particles are
in the centre of the streamline. But the particles at the edges of the pipe are affected
by the friction of the containing walls or boundary layer, making them slightly slower.
Bernoulli didn’t include the forces of viscosity, that act upon most common fluids in
his equations.
