B.Tech III Year I Semester (R07) Supplementary Examinations December/January 2013/14 CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY Time: 3 hours Answer any FIVE questions All questions carry equal marks *****
1 (a) (b) 2 (a) (b) 3 (a) (b) 4 (a) (b) Explain in detail the formation of Bouges compounds. Discuss the effect of tricalcium silicate on the setting properties of cement. What do you mean by soundness of aggregate? What is alkali-aggregate reaction? And how will it affect the concrete properties. What are the types of segregation? What are the factors responsible for segregation? What preventive measures you take against segregation? Define laitance. Discuss the factors responsible for it. Explain the maturity concept for strength development of concrete. The strength of a sample of fully natured concrete is 42 MPa. Find the strength of an identical concrete at an average temperature of 220C in day time and 120C in night time. The plowmans co-efficient may be taken as 32 and 54. What are the various factors affecting the split tensile strength of concrete? Explain in detail. Explain in detail about the concrete core test that is conducted on existing concrete structure to assess its strength. How the creep varies with time? Explain in detail. How the creep is measured experimentally? Explain in detail. Design M20 concrete mix for the following data by ISI method: 7 days strength of cement..= 38 N/mm Maximum size of aggregate..= 20 mm-angular Degree of workability= 0.90 C.F or 30 mm slump Degree of quality control...= good Type of exposure..= mild Specific gravity of cement= 3.15 Specific gravity of coarse aggregate = 2.60 Specific gravity of fine aggregate= 2.6 Zone of fine aggregate..= III Write short notes on the following: No fines concrete. Self consolidating concrete. HPC.
