Coordinate Plane
Vocabulary
• Coordinate plane – is the map formed by two
number lines, the x-axis and the y-axis, that
intersect at right angles.
• X-axis – the horizontal axis of a coordinate
plane ( side to side)
• Y-axis – the vertical axis of a coordinate plane
(up and down)
• X-coordinate – first number in an ordered pair
that tells the direction and number of units to
move on the x-axis
• Y-coordinate – 2nd number in an ordered pair
that tells the direction and number of units to
move on the y-axis
• Origin – point (0,0) on a coordinate plane
