Dear Parents, Welcome back after a joyous and fun holiday. Hope everyone is ready to start school. Welcome to any new students to our YCIS families. If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch with your childs class teacher.

REMINDERS
Remember to send students with their Library books on their Library days.
Students must be wearing coats outside! Please help remind them to bring theirs to school!

Weekly Homework
Chinese Homework week nights plus Monday: English Literacy including Spelling Words Tuesday: Mathematics / Mathletics Wednesday: English Literacy or Topic related Thursday: Mathematics / Mathletics English Reading every night. To develop comprehension, discuss the story after reading it. Literacy and Spelling homework will often be activity based and may include games to play. Topic homework may be assigned over one night or over a week and may include research or some components of individual projects. Students' Spelling progress will be monitored each week in a variety of ways including Formative Assessment, monitoring of spelling use in written work or Spelling tests or Quizzes. There will not be a test every week. Mathletics forms the basis of our Mathematics homework. Your child should spend 20 minutes on the set tasks and then at least 10 minutes on the Maths Live component which is designed to help students learn their basic facts. Other Mathematics activities will be assigned from time-to-time.

MATHEMATICS
For Mathematics this week we are doing some reviewing of the concepts that we learned during the first semester. This week we will concentrate on adding and subtracting more than 2 numbers, finding the missing number, and finishing number patterns. Ex: 5 + 10 + 6 = ____ Ex: 20 ___ = 5 Ex: 38, 36, 34, 32, ____

SPELLING

EAL students will get a set of words from their EAL teacher. The mainstream teacher has differentiated according to the students level of ability, so please check which words they bring home.
