Early childhood educators (ECEs) work with children in nursery schools, daycares, and similar settings. Most ECEs work with children between the ages of 2 and 5. ECEs need to understand how children learn and develop, not just cognitively (mentally), but physically, socially, and emotionally as well. They are trained to design games and activities that are fun, but also educational in specific ways. Teaching small children the alphabet requires a different strategy than teaching them why they should share toys with classmates, or why its not okay to hit people when theyre angry or frustrated. ECEs specialize in working with children with physical or developmental disabilities, or behavioural problems.

Duties
-Design and lead learning games and activities -Use arts, crafts, and music to help children learn -Establish and maintain routines for children -Consult with parents about their children's development -May specialize in teaching children with disabilities. -Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children. -Provide nutritious snacks and lunches. -Ensure equipment and the facilities are clean, well maintained and safe at all times. -Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities.
