    To backwash a sand filter: turn off the pump, rotate the filter valve to backwash position, turn on the pump for 2-3 minutes until water runs clear, then rotate the valve to rinse for 10 seconds and finally back to filter to resume normal operation. A filter should be backwashed when the pressure gauge reads 10-20 kPa higher than normal, which depends on how clean the pool water is and may be less often for cleaner water.

    How to backwash a sand filter


    1) Turn the pump off at power supply. 2) Press and rotate filter valve handle to backwash position. 3) Turn power supply on to start pump working, then wait till the water in the clear inspection pipe becomes clean; this may take up to 2-3 minutes. 4) Turn power supply off. 5) Press and rotate filter valve handle to rinse position. 6) Turn power supply on to start pump working, then wait approximately 10 seconds for the sand to be rinsed. 7) Turn power supply off. 8) Press and rotate filter valve back to filter position. 9) Turn power supply on.

    How often should the filter be backwashed?


    This will depend on how clean the pool water is - the cleaner the water the less often the filter will need to be backwashed. If the pressure gauge reads 10-20 kpa higher than normal then the filter sand generally needs to be backwashed.
