B.Tech II Year I Semester (R09) Regular & Supplementary Examinations December/January 2013/14 ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS (Electronics & Control Engineering) Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 70 Answer any FIVE questions All questions carry equal marks ***** 1 (a) Derive the expression for electric intensity (EFI) due to line charge. (b) Point charges 1mC and -2 mC are located at (3, 2, -1) and (-1, -1, 4) respectively. Calculate the electric force on a 10nC charge located at (9, 3, 1) and the electric field intensity at that point.

Write the boundary conditions at an interface separating conductor and free space. Derive the expression for relation between magnetic flux density and magnetic field intensity and also state the law of convergence of magnetic flux. (ii) Show that div (A) = 0 and div(B) = 0. Derive the Maxwells third equation, Curl(H) = J. Derive the equation of force between two straight long and parallel current carrying conductors in magnetic field. A solenoid with length 10 cm and radius 1 cm has 450 turns. Calculate its inductance. Derive the equation for energy stored and density in magnetic fields. Write the Neumans formulae and also explain self and mutual inductances. A parallel plate capacitor with plate area of 5 cm2 and plate separation of 3 mm has a voltage 50 sin (103t) volts applied to its plates. Calculate the displacement current assuming . Explain the modification of Maxwells equations for time varying fields.
