AMERICAN LITERATURE

The course attempts to provide an overview of American Literature with the help of some representative writings. The texts selected include the major forms fiction, poetry and drama defining distinctive characteristics of movements they represent or the modes of consciousness they articulate. The objective of the course is to make the student appreciate the historical circumstances in which the varieties of American literatures were produced and also understand the regional and racial complexities of that literature.
