Monique Yang Ethics !

In bear bile farming, the people facing an ethical decision are the owners of the

farm and the people working there. It is not illegal to farm for bear bile but it is extremely cruel and conditions are very harsh for the endangered moon bears. ! Bear bile is a common form of medications and farms are found in China and

Vietnam. A Chinese pharmaceutical company called Guizhentang owns one of the biggest bear bile farms in the world. It is not illegal to farm for bear bile even though it is cruel to the bears. The moon bears are kept in cages the same size of the bear itself. It is also a painful experience for the bear because they insert a tube into them to get the bile. ! Moon bears are living creatures and have rights. They are also an endangered

species and bear bile farming shorten their lives drastically. They live a life of constant pain without any freedom. Although the farm owners, workers, and sellers of bear bile are aware of all this, they continue to do it. They are challenging the rights of an animal and also pushing them one step forward towards extinction. ! The owners of companies that sell bear bile do not understand ethics. There

alternatives for bear bile that are safer and articial. Yet they continue to harm animals for money.
