Markets: Mid Session

Up by close to 1.5 per cent

Indian equity markets started the day on a strong note following positive global cues.
Asian markets were trading higher by 0.5 to 1 per cent in the morning. Our markets
witnessed good buying interest in realty, auto, banking and metal stocks.

At 12:15 hours, the Nifty had risen by 81.65 points and moved up to 4,890.25 and the
Sensex had jumped up by 229.75 points and was at 16,443.94. The BSE Midcap has
risen by 97 points, while the BSE Smallcap index had ascended by 124 points.

Buying in utilities and industrial stocks saved the day for the US markets, as fears of a
potential trade war between China and the US loomed large. Yesterday, the Dow Jones
Industrial Average climbed 21.39 points to end the day at 9,626.80 while the S&P 500
rose by 6.61 points to reach 1,049.34. The Nasdaq Composite jumped up by about
10.88 points to reach 2,091.78.

Heavy selling of mining and oil stocks was countered by good buying interest in banking
and telecom stocks and this helped FTSE 100 stay above 5000 yesterday. FTSE 100
rose by 7.38 points to settle at 5,018.85.
