Happy New Year!
I cant believe it is January. How quickly the months are passing by! We have completed our round of skating for the 2013-2014 school year. THANK YOU to all those parents who took time out of their schedule to come to the rink to tie skates, participate in skating or just cheer on our students. I was so pleased to see how much the students improved with their skating from this weekly event.

Literacy Place

In Literacy we will continue working on our reading strategies but will be doing a 6 week writing blitz. The 6 traits of writing include: conventions, ideas, organization, sentence fluency, voice and word choice. The first blitz will focus on the writing traits of ideas and conventions.

Math Corner
In Math, we are starting the New Year with estimating differences as well as a quick review of addition using 4-digit numbers. Mid-month we will begin our study of multiplication and division. Students are required to know their basic facts up to 9x9 as well as the related division number sentence. http://www.quia.com/jg/66145.html

Social Studies
This month in Social Studies we will be continuing our study of Exploration. Students will be assigned a project to research an explorer or inventor and create a project to present to the class. In class, we will be discussing topics such as plagiarism, note taking, and presentation skills to support the development of this project. As a result of these presentations, we will learn about 27 different explorers and inventors!
