Literacy Place
In Literacy we will continue working on our reading strategies but will be doing a 6 week writing blitz. The 6 traits of writing include: conventions, ideas, organization, sentence fluency, voice and word choice. The first blitz will focus on the writing traits of ideas and conventions.
Math Corner
In Math, we are starting the New Year with estimating differences as well as a quick review of addition using 4-digit numbers. Mid-month we will begin our study of multiplication and division. Students are required to know their basic facts up to 9x9 as well as the related division number sentence. http://www.quia.com/jg/66145.html
Social Studies
This month in Social Studies we will be continuing our study of Exploration. Students will be assigned a project to research an explorer or inventor and create a project to present to the class. In class, we will be discussing topics such as plagiarism, note taking, and presentation skills to support the development of this project. As a result of these presentations, we will learn about 27 different explorers and inventors!
Skillstreaming
Skills and Routines for January and February: Skill#53: Reacting to Failure Skill #54: Accepting No Skill #55 Saying No Skill #60 Being Honest These skills come from the book SkillStreaming: The Elementary School Child. The skill is first defined, modeled, practiced and then expected of each of our students.

Reminders to Parents
On Monday students are able to purchase hot lunch tickets by packs of 10. These are $25. Students should be bringing home their water bottle regularly for cleaning.
