Paper and Project Requirements and Guidelines

The final project has four parts: 1. 1,000 word paper on a historical event or phenomenon. This paper should cover the journalistic aspects of your topic. What is this event or phenomenon? Where did this event or phenomenon take place or exist? When did this event take place or when was this phenomenon important? How did this event come about (i.e., what was its historical context). Equally important is your analysis of the topic. The questions you ask yourself here should be more sophisticated. What effect has this phenomenon had on the way that humans perceive their world? What were the long-term political, economic, and cultural effects of your event or phenomenon? What were the positive and negative consequences of this event or phenomenon? 2. Historical Map depicting some aspect of your phenomenon. This map is to be completed on paper that will be provided to you. It should do the following: Fill the entire provided paper Clearly communicate information regarding your topic using legends, keys, and a title that includes a date or date range Strive for historical and geographical accuracy as well as artistic expression 3. 500 word biographical paper on a subject related to your historical event or phenomenon. Again, this paper should deal with the journalistic aspects or your subject. Who is this person? Where were they born and where did they live? When did this person live and when were they active and relevant? How did this person interact with your historical event or phenomenon? Also important is a more specific treatment of your subject: What about your subjects character or life experience made them able and willing to do what they did? Is your subject a hero? A villain? Be sure to explain why you think so. 4. A Portrait of Your Biographical Subject. This portrait is to be completed on paper that will be provided to you. It should do the following: Fill the entire provided paper Depict the biographical subject including his/her name Be artistically ambitious
