REMEMBER ADDITION
RULES
George says,
If my signs are the
same, add and keep
the signs!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my signs are
different, subtract
the numbers and
keep the sign of the
biggest absolute
value!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
George also says that if you have any left over bananas,
save them for him…………and he says Mr. Graham is the
greatest, so listen to him!!
ONE RULE…Learn it, live it,

KCO KEEP IT, CHANGE IT, OPPOSITE
Keep the first #, change the operation sign, take
the opposite of the last number.
THEN FOLLOW YOUR RULES FOR
ADDITION!!!!
Examples
-5 – 7 = ?
Keep -5
Change (-) subtraction to (+) addition
Use the opposite of 7, which is -7.
Now we have -5 + -7 =
Signs are the same, so we add and keep the sign.

-5 + -7 = -12
Examples
2 – (-4) =
Keep 2
Change (-) to (+)
Use the opposite of (-4), which is 4

2+4=6
So…. 2 – (-4) = 6
