The Internet is a driving force behind developments in telecommunications, networks, and other information technologies. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
By all industry accounts, this statement is very accurate. In order to remain competitive in domestic and global markets, businesses will become even more reliant on technology as we enter the 21century. Businesses are pushing for developments in technology, which will enable them to gather and disseminate information at greater speeds. Technology is crucial for accurate decision-making, and this demand will definitely drive developments in these technologies. By definition, telecommunication means communication over long or far distances. In order to establish this communication, a channel or medium is necessary. Out of many mediums of telecommunication, internet provides one of the most essential channels for information to flow over very long distances. A typical internet network contains a physical path consisting of cables, switches and routers, invisible for the users at the logical layers. Through different protocols, different information is carried over different application for end user from one part of the world to the other, within a fraction of seconds. This gives the edge for telecommunication industry to grow and develop and to invent new technologies for optimal communication over the internet. Not only this, the internet also has the element of long haul communication, which necessarily includes satellite communication and undersea optical communication. Within themselves, these technologies are developing day by day to enhance the performance of long haul communication. Routers and switches being essential building block themselves are giving the opportunities in the telecommunication world for the need of more advance routing and switching techniques and the need of different protocols at different logical levels. To conclude, at both physical and logical levels, internet is indeed giving massive opportunities in the industry of telecommunication for further advancements.
