H. E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon

Secretary General
United Nations

August 28, 2009

Dear Excellency,

In a letter dated July 20, we voiced our support of your recent visit to Burma to meet with the military leader General
Than Shwe. We also expressed our dismay that the Burmese regime would not allow you to meet with Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi.

Today, after the sentence of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to an additional 18 months of house arrest, we must conclude
that the junta has no intention of complying with international standards of justice and decency.

In an August 19 article on The Huffington Post, President Jose Ramos-Horta of East Timor proposed that “Burma's
membership in the UN and all UN Agencies and ASEAN be suspended”. He adds, “The time has come for more
forceful and creative ways of fighting for democracy in Burma.”

We would like to express our strong support of Mr. Ramos-Horta’s proposal. As we previously suggested, “It is our
belief that drastic measures must be taken to punish the ruling junta and to produce positive outcome, as there are no
other alternatives.”

Burma has legitimately elected leaders from the 1990 election who were denied the opportunity to represent their
people. We strongly urge the United Nations to acknowledge and accept the credentials of the legitimate leaders
representing the people of Burma if such credentials are submitted.

On behalf of the people of Burma, we would like to once again sound the alarm that the safety of the people of Burma
is under assault. Lives will be spared only if members of the United Nations take bold actions against the military
junta. Member nations must not allow the junta to continue its egregious abuses of its own people. This inaction
undermines the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and would forever stand as a blot on the
history of the struggle for peace and democracy.

Thank you for your consideration and support of the people of Burma.

Respectfully,

Members of Burma Point
