Benchmark: Individuality Skill: Respect

A very important skill to possess in ones career, and ones life, is respect. Respect is of the utmost importance for many reasons. Being able to respect others will both serve as a testament to your character, and garner you respect in return. Also, being able to respect others with whom you disagree is very important to maintaining professionalism, dignity and civility. Because you will often have disagreements with others, maintaining a level of respectful attitude is very important. I have a large amount of experience with respect and respectful disagreement. Due to my passionate political convictions, I often get into disagreements on this subject with others, though I always try to maintain respect and civility, as you cannot demand respect without giving it to others. I also use this same principle of respect and civility when I get into disagreements with others on other topics. Ive found that giving respect garners respect, therefore I always try to uphold the idea of respect. Respect will help me immensely in the future. Not only will it help me live a more peaceful everyday life, but itll also help me to be a more worthy and statesmanlike public servant. All too often at the present time, respect in politics is thrown to the wayside in favor of divisive, partisan rhetoric. I look forward to rejecting this trend.
