During

the winter season the northeast trade winds prevail over the country. It is a dry season, in which some amount rainfall occurs in Tamil Nadu coasts. These winds blow from sea to land. The Northern Part of the country experiences a feeble high-pressure region, which develops with light winds moving outwards from this area. This weather is normally marked by a clear sky, low humidity, low temperature and feeble, variable winds

FEATURES OF COLD WEATHER SEASON

The northern plains is the inflow of cyclonic disturbances from the west and the northwest. These low-pressure systems originate from the Mediterranean Sea and western Asia. They cause the much-needed winter rains over the plains and snowfall in the mountains. The total amount of rainfall locally is known as mahawat. Crops such as wheat, pulses, gram, barley etc. and are known as Rabi Crops.

THE PENINSULAR REGION


The Peninsular region does

not have a well-defined cold season. There is hardly any noticeable seasonal change in the temperature pattern, during winters due to the moderating influence of the sea.
