RENO HIGH SCHOOL CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) DEPARTMENT CLASSROOM RULES AND REGULATIONS COMPUTER LITERACY
GENERAL INFORMATION: The first few weeks of class are especially important for classroom management because it is during this time that my students will learn behaviors and procedures needed throughout the semester. Therefore, I am listing the course objectives, expectations, and academic policies that will be enforced in my class. Attaining these goals will establish a classroom climate that supports learning, and it will help all students acquire effective work habits and positive attitudes toward my class. COMMUNICATION: If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via e-mail at tscichilone@washoeschools.net or via phone at 333-5050. I will also utilize Remind 101 as a means to communicate reminders to the class. Remind 101 is a safe and simple one-way communication tool. You will not have access to my personal number, nor will I have access to yours. In addition, it does not allow for subscribers to respond to text messages/e-mail reminders. It is simply a means for me to send reminders to students and parents. If you choose to subscribe, please follow the instructions for subscribing located on the class website on the Remind 101 page of the home tab. CLASS WEBSITE: All course information, project instructions, and formatting documents can be found on the class website at www.rhscomputerlit.weebly.com. COURSE GOAL: Students will work to develop computing skills for evaluation and problem solving. Students will learn to use technology and apply it in practical applications commonly associated with personal and professional settings. Successful completion of this course satisfies the graduation requirement for Computer Literacy and Applications. Junior and senior students who complete this course with a B or better are eligible to earn college credit through TMCCs Tech Prep program (more information to follow). COURSE TOPICS/OBJECTIVES INCLUDE: 1) TECHNIQUE: Students will demonstrate proficiency and accuracy in keyboarding using the touch method. 2) WORD PROCESSING: Students will format documents (letters, tables, and reports) 3) SPREADSHEETS: Students will prepare, format and print spreadsheets including charts and graphs. 4) MULTIMEDIA: Students will prepare a multi-page presentation including sound, graphics, animation, and text. 5) INTERNET & CONNECTIVITY: Students will access the Internet to determine legitimacy of a source, cite sources, and use information to complete research. 6) WEB DESIGN: Students will explore basic principles of web design. Students will create and view a simple web page, and design a site using a widget-based editor. 7) EXLPORING CURRENT TECHNOLOGY: Students will use appropriate software and file management to complete assigned tasks. 8) HISTORY: Students will identify historical influences and developments in technology. 9) EQUIPMENT USE: Students will understand the fundamental components of a computer system. 10) ETHICS: Students will explore law and ethics related to computer use. 11) CAREER RESEARCH: Students will identify a career choice utilizing research tools.

CLASS RULES: 1) Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. Students not in their assigned seat when the bell rings will be marked tardy. 2) Be courteous to your fellow students and teacher. 3) Listen and follow instructions. NONCOMPLIANCE WITH CLASS RULES: 1) Warning 2) Lunch detention 3) Lunch detention and call home to parents 4) Subsequent disregard for classroom rules will result in referrals to the discipline office and consequences will follow Reno Highs progressive discipline plan. LAB FEE: $10.00 for materials and printing costs. Fees are paid directly to bookkeeper. CLASS MATERIALS: Folder with pockets Folder should contain: rule sheet, formatting sheets, and production work ACADEMIC POLICY: All work is to be typed in acceptable format and letter perfect. Grading Scale: 100-90=A 89-80=B 79-70=C 69-60=D 59-=F Students will be graded on the following: Participation & Production Work Review Tests Periodic Notebook & Directory Checks Technique Final Exam EXTRA HELP: Mrs. Scichilone will be available Monday thru Thursday at lunch and after school in room N4. EXTRA CREDIT: Extra credit opportunities will be made available over the course of the semester. Specific instructions will be posted on the class website.

COMPUTER LAB STUDENT BEHAVIOR CONTRACT


In addition to agreeing to abide by the WCSD Internet Acceptable Use Agreement, I understand and accept the Student Behavior Contract and agree to abide by all of the policies and procedures established by the instructor. I agree that:
1) I will not turn off/on, re-boot, or manipulate computers in the computer lab without the expressed direction and observation of the lab instructor. 2) I will not attempt to unplug or disengage or change any settings (including the desktop settings) on the computers. 3) I will not willfully destroy, damage, tamper, alter, steal, misappropriate or use without permission any system, program, or file. 4) I will not attempt to access other users directories or log-ins. I agree to use my directory for my own work and to keep my password confidential. 5) Portable storage devices are to be used only with the teachers consent. 6) As a student of Reno High School using a computer, I am authorized to use the Reno licensed software at the Reno site only. 7) I will not copy software, attempt to use personal programs/software. There are severe legal consequences for copying software. Consequences will be enforced, and may include removal of computer privileges and/or criminal prosecution. 8) Reno High School students learning of any misuse of software or equipment should notify the teacher immediately. 9) I will be held accountable for any destruction in my area unless I notify the instructor at the beginning of the class period. 10) I understand that if I am found to be in violation of any policies listed above, I may be removed from the class, denied computer access at Reno High School, and may be subject to loss of full or partial credit of course work.
