History of the Colossus:

To celebrate the victory over Demetrius Poliorcetes, the city decides to raise a monument memorable to Helios, the god of the sun and protector of the city, in the port. Directs the work at first Lindos Cares, builder of a statue of Zeus at Tarentum. The statue is growing, iron frame first and then the bronze plaques, but the architect, ignoring the size of the monument, sign the contract receiving less money than the needed, so he go bankrupt, and finally he commits suicide. The statue was finished by Laches and it measure no less than 32 meters high. His fame will attract visitors from all over the ancient world to see it.

Architecture Its architects that direct the construction were Lindos Cares and Laches, its height was 32 mts and the materials that were used were bronze, marble, stone, iron and some others metal material. It was possibly built first by carving .The feet in stone, then filling the legs at least to the knees with stones, then with iron barns in the thorax fill the space in chest with bronze and the head in marble. The Colossus of Rhodes was felled, 56 years after its erection, by an earthquake and nobody bothered to pick it up ever again. When, finally, the remains were removed from the sea, was for use in new construction.
