Unit 2 Equations Day 6 Lesson: WebQuest 54 minutes

Objective: Students will work to complete a WebQuest. They will combine the skills and knowledge acquired over the last four lessons on equations and apply them in combination with the internet to complete the WebQuest.

Standards: Common Core CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.C.7a : Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form x = a, a = a, or a = b results (where a and b are different numbers). CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.C.7b Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.8.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-onone, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 8 topics, texts, and issues, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly.

Create list of partners Print up worksheets (1 for each student) Turn on all PCs Sharpen Pencils.

Materials: iPad for each student, stylis for each student, PC for each group, pencils, worksheets Anticipatory Set: Teacher will guide students to get their journals from their files and begin writing about the journal topic on the board. Encourage students to use correct grammar and punctuation with their writing. When they are done ask for or call on volunteers to share their ideas with the class. Guided Instruction: Teacher will assign students to their partners and each pairs PC. Students will go to their PCs and sign into the class website Teacher will explain that students will scroll down and click on the Minion that says WebQuest. Teacher will explain that students will have 40 minutes to complete numbers 1,3,4,5, and 7 of the WebQuest. Each student is responsible for his/her own worksheet. They may use their notes from NoteTaker HD Worksheets will be turned in at the end of the period. If students finish early they may go to coolmath.com and play math games or study their notes from NoteTaker HD. Homework: No homework tonight.
