Layton Funk 2nd Period

Pocket Knife
July 2011
Id been going to Camp Longhorn as a camper for a solid seven years until finally I reached the age when I had to be a counselor to go. People who have gone to camp for many years get prizes for each year, and the more years that are racked up, the more mature the prizes get. This past summer I had gone long enough to get a pocket knife, which to me symbolized the responsibility that a counselor must possess. Now this was certainly a change of pace for me considering all a camper did was have fun on the blob or just be lazy on the Rio Flojo. I soon found out that counseling at Camp Longhorn really isnt that bad of a job. Not only are there great coworkers that Id known for years, but we get to have fun on our off nights when we hang out with our female counterparts. However, being a counselor means being responsible for kids and having to do work like docking the sailboats and lifeguard duty. On the bright side, all that work really helped me be more diligent and hard working. That made my father happily surprised when I came home willing to do all kinds of chores around the house for him.
