Equilibrium reactor

The majority of ethylbenzene (EB) processes produce EB for internal consumption within a coupled process that produces styrene monomer. The facility described here produces 80,000 tonne/yr of 99.8 mol% ethylbenzene that is totally consumed by an on-site styrene facility. The reaction is as follows

Step 1
First open new case in hysis program

Step 2
Simulation Basis Manager will open now. Click Add. Components window will be opened.

Step 3

Add components (benzene, ethylene, ethylbenzene) and close that window.

Step 4
Click Add. Fluid Package window will be opened. Choose Peng-Robinson as Base Property Package

Step 5
Now open reactions tab and select equilibrium reaction and add reaction.

Step 6
Now add the reaction components and enter their stichiometric coefficients.

Step 7
Now add this reaction set to given fluid package and enter simulation environment.

Step 8
Click Equilibrium reactor in the Object Palette and push it on simulation screen.

Step 9
Click Equilibrium reactor in PFD. Name the Inlet as Inlet Stream, the vapour outlet as top outlet, and the liquid outlet as bottom outlet and close the window.

Step 10
Now click the reactions tab and add the reaction set produced previously.

Step 11

Now fill in the Workbook with all the given conditions provided, starting from the inlet stream: temperature (80), pressure (20), and molar flow (100). Double click 100 (molar flow rate), and composition window will be opened. Fill in the composition and close. As you fill in the conditions, HYSYS will calculate the rest.
