This week in 4 D!
Quarter 2 is coming to an end. Students are working hard to make sure they get everything done. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time in order not to miss our daily class morning meeting.

Day 5 Music No School for students

This week we are continuing the unit about big numbers, estimation, and computation. The students are learning how to solve extended multiplication facts and multiplication facts with big numbers. They will also work on estimating sums and products and they will learn how to use the partial products and the lattice method. The Unit 5 test will next week and a review will be given to students and posted to the class website soon.

This week we are finishing up our Science unit about electricity. The students learned how to build a simple circuit, a series circuit and a parallel circuit. They also learned the difference between conductors and insulators. As a final assessment, the students are building circuits in class.

We have been working on and are continuing to use the Daily 5 within our classrooms. We are also now finishing up our Writers Workshop unit on personal essays. Students must complete their personal essays in class by Thursday January 23rd.We are also continuing our word work with the prefixes re-, un-, and dis-. Students should understand how these prefixes change the meaning of different root words.

This week we are completing our Social Studies unit about the government in the United States. The students learned that the system works through checks and balances. They learned what the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch are.
