PPCs Ca ll i ng: U ma Kuma ra n

Im the Parliamentary candidate for Harrow East in the 2015 General Elections. I currently work in local government and am also a volunteer Hospital Radio presenter at my local Hospital in Harrow. My passion for politics comes from my family and my friends. They are the reason I became involved in politics. I have always been active but in recent years I couldnt just sit back and watch this Tory government destroy the things I care about and divide our community thats why I put myself forward. And now Im fighting for my hometown, the area I grew up in, where I studied and for the community I grew up with. There are many women and men who have fought for freedom and justice who I admire but my ultimate political hero is without a doubt Nelson Mandela. He spent the equivalent of my entire life in prison and never once faltered in fighting for a cause he believed in. his election remains one of the defining moments in the last century and something that even having seen as a child I will never forget. His determination to stand up for whats not just right but fair makes him my political hero. The best is still yet to come.

Pau l G oggin s MP
Paul Goggins the Labour MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East has passed away in hospital. He was 60. Paul fell ill on New Years Eve whilst out running with his son and was rushed straight to Salford Royal hospital. In a statement, his family said: Last night Paul Goggins, our dear dad and husband, died in hospital in Salford with us by his side. We are completely heartbroken. He had been very ill since collapsing last week. The way in which he has been cared for at Salford Royal has been such a comfort to us and we can't thank the staff enough for this. We have been overwhelmed by the support and good wishes we have received from so many people - a real sign of love and a reflection of the sort of person Paul/Dad was.We would also like to thank the media for continuing to respect our privacyat such a difficult time."

Paul was elected to the House of Commons in 1997 and was widely liked and W h a t' s y ou r f av o u r i t e q u o te o r m ot t o ? admired by both colleagues and constituents for his dedication to his work. If at first you dont succeed, try, try and try again. His death is a huge loss to both Manchester and the Labour Party. A record number of BAME candidates have been chosen to stand for Labour at the next election. A number of key selections are still pending but so far 18 have been chosen. They are: Rod Abouharb (Kensington) Amanjit Jhun (East Dunbartonshire) Sarah Owen (Hasting & Rye) Sachin Patel (Richmond Park) Clive Lewis (Norwich South) Naushabah Khan (Rochester & Strood) Amina Lone (Morecambe & Lunesdale) Dawn Butler (Brent Central) Thangam Debbonaire (Bristol West) Azhar Al (Pendle) Rupa Huq (Ealing Central & Acton) Charanjeet (Chaz) Singh (South West Devon) Purna Sen (Brighton, Pavilion) Tulip Siddiq (Hampstead & Kilburn) Rebecca Blake (Redditch) Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi (Gravesham) Uma Kumaran (Harrow East) Bin Joshi (Colne Valley)
