CS Fallback Solution --CSFB Is Coming

Three Driving Factors of the VoLTE

For voice calls, frequency usage efficiency of the LTE network is over four times that of the circuit switched (CS) network.

Response to the OTT competition

High bandwidth, short delay, all IP, and permanent online characteristic facilitate the development of over-the-top (OTT) applications.

Unified network and reduced CTO

High-quality voice calls High-quality video calls Faster call connection Media communications experience

Better communications quality

Faster call connection

Diversified services

Higher frequency usage efficiency

The CS Fallback (CSFB) voice call solution is one of the major voice over long term evolution (VoLTE) solutions. During evolution of mobile broadband voice calls, this solution is considered as the optimal solution in the industry to provide the LTE voice call service with use of the CS network at the early stage of the LTE. This solution helps operators to seize market opportunities.

The CSFB is critical to operators owning the LTE network.

Huawei CS Fallback solution document describes the principle, networking, service interaction, and network reconstruction of the CSFB solution.

01

Key Technologies (1)

Redundancy The CSFB Proxy Backup and Recovery and CSFB Backup and Recovery features provide CSFB proxylevel and MME-level redundancy in mobile terminated (MT) and mobile originated (MO) call services when the CSFB proxy/CSFB or MME is faulty.

The CS Fallback solution document provides the redundancy mechanism and message flow.

MTRR and MTRF

The CS Fallback solution document describes differences between two solutions and provides deployment recommendations and message flows.

As illustrated in the figure above, the CSFB solution comprises the Mobile Terminating Roaming Retry (MTRR) and Mobile Terminating Roaming Forwarding (MTRF) solutions.

02

Key Technologies (2)

CSFB fallback

The CS Fallback solution document compares the previous fallback solutions and provides the delay analysis of these solutions in a table.

The CSFB can be implemented in five modes in terms of UE and network capabilities: (1) PS handoverenabled CSFB (2) Redirectionenabled CSFB (3) R8 CCO with NACC

Return from GERAN/ UTRAN to E-UTRAN

The CS Fallback solution document describes solutions for fast return to the 4G network.

The solution for GERAN/UTRAN to return to E-UTRAN after mobile terminals revert to GERAN/UTRAN

Delay

The CS Fallback solution document describes the delay for MO and MT calls and delay optimization solutions in the CSFB and CSFB Proxy solutions.

The delay is an important network indicator in the CSFB solution.

03

CSFB Networking Policies

The CS Fallback solution document describes network evolution solutions and redundancy mechanisms for the CSFB and CSFB Proxy solutions.

You can select an evolution networking solution based on actual conditions of the live network to quickly deploy the LTE network.

Introduction to CSFB and CSFB Proxy Services

The CS Fallback solution document introduces you to message flows of major services when the CSFB and CSFB Proxy solutions are implemented. This helps you learn the fallback flows of voice calls.
Detailed message flow with important network elements (NEs) marked Control points in the message flow and matching software parameters and MML configurations

Snapshots of important messages and information elements (IEs)
