Automatic License Plate Recognition (Alpr) A State-Of-The-Art Review
Introduction:
Automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) is the extraction of vehicle license plate information from an image or a sequence of images. The extracted information can be used with or without a database in many applications, such as electronic payment systems (toll payment, parking fee payment), and freeway and arterial monitoring systems for traffic surveillance. It is fulfilled by the combination of a lot of techniques, such as object detection, image processing, and pattern recognition. ALPR is also known as automatic vehicle identification, car plate recognition, automatic number plate recognition, and optical character recognition (OCR) for cars.
Existing System:
In the existing system the license plate of the vehicle is identified manually. The license plate should be identified automatically because it is not possible to monitor manually every time. Hence a system is proposed to take this is as an advantage.
Proposed System:
In the proposed system Using MATLAB the vehicles License Plate is identified. Using Web Camera mounted over the detection system image of the license plate is captured and the image is processed to extract the license no. Here we have designed the system with the purpose to check traffic violation. The system checks for red signal. If in a red signal a vehicle try to cross its license no is extracted and information regarding the offense along with the license plate no is sent to the Traffic Control Section for further legal actions to be taken. Also an alarm is raised to intimate the on field policeman about the offense.
