The Titeretoscope

Mini Puppet Show

The Titeretoscope was inspired by the first
projector of moving images, the
Cinematoscope, invented by Thomas
Edison.
It first appeared in 1994, as a way to
perform puppet theatre in miniature form,
showing images and telling stories inside a
box which was placed on top of a tripod.
We tell stories to both children and adults,
based on universal and Brazilian popular
culture, such as the circus, the Snake
Charmer and Candido Portinari, a
painter who portrayed the Brazilian
people.
To watch it, the spectator looks through an
existing hole in one of the extremities. On
the other side, the manipulator begins the
play. The performance lasts for one minute
per spectator and can only be seen by one
person at a time.
The Titeretoscope has appeared at festivals
and on the streets of Brazil and Europe, e.g.
Charleville-Meziéres, Barcelona, Gent,
Antwerp, Hamburg, Milan, Oslo,
Stockholm and Dublín.
In every new place, with a new spectator
and a new performance, everything begins
once more.

The Puppet Catchers

3 Creative Workshops
The aim of these three workshops is to invent and construct puppets from
everyday objects found by children. These objects could include
plastics, bottles, paper, buttons, knitting needles, fabrics etc. Children will
explore the concepts of shadow, stick and finger/hand puppets using the
objects they collect. We will recycle and transform these objects into puppets
that you can manipulate and play with.
