Live Play Review A Killing Game Nika Seider Blue

A Killing Game was performed October 15th at Round House Theater, Silver Spring, MD. The play is developed and scripted by Rachel Grossman, Lorraine Ressegger-Slone, J. Argyl Plath, Jon Reynolds, Rebecca Sheir and Gwydion Suilebhan and Colin Bills- who is also the director. The play is presented by a Dog & Pony Production. A Killing Game is a humorous play on how to cheat death, in the style of a game show, with the audience being contestants. It takes place in a not so far away town, in a not so far away past. Each contestant receives a different pack of cards, which states their role in each round of the game, with a different result on who lives and dies each time. The characters; Mr. Blue, Miss Pink, Miss Green, Miss Orange, Miss Purple, Mr. Chrome and Our Friend in Black are absolutely phenomenal actors. Not only do they stay completely in character throughout the entire performance, they also improvise constantly. At one point, the audience texted the actors telling them what to do, and within seconds, the actors were performing as though they had practiced for weeks. They all have an amazing sense of humor, and brought the whole entire audience out of their comfort zone. Miss Pink, portrayed by Yasmin Tuazon was fantastic- her improvised witty side remarks to the audience were absolutely hilarious. Mr. Chrome- J. Argyl Path was faced a technical difficulties with the sound, but he makes the best of the situation by making jokes about the quality of the production of the game show. All actors used the 4th wall when not directly talking to audience members, and great emotional subtext in the more serious moments of the play. A Killing Game does a wonderful job of casting its actors, with all of them being exceptional.
