Day 5 PE Library Day 6 IT Day 7 ART Day 8 MUSIC Library Day1 PE

Things to look forward to this Week.

Library on Day 5 and 8. ASAs are starting so please see the timetables on the PE ASA Weebly site. Map testing begins this week, Grade 1 A has Reading on Monday and Wednesday and Grade 1 B has Reading on Tuesday and Thursday. Maths will be on Sunday and Monday next week. Last week Grade 1s enjoyed an exciting day out at the Dubai Museum. We learnt about the Emirate culture and the children made some amazing connections to the UOI. They then wrote some lovely stories about what their artifacts story would be if it could talk. This week we will learn about posters and we will make a poster about our own personal cultural celebrations. In Language this week we will use the Action Cycle to explore the elements of a poster such as the heading, pictures, information and captions. Children will discover what they see, think and know about posters. Children will then apply these findings and develop their skills by planning and organizing information in a logical way to present information about their personal cultural celebration. We will continue to develop listening skills through sequencing activities.

In writing we will recount our weekend news by using time connectives to order and sequence the events i.e. first, next, after that, then, last and finally. We will be learning the qu diagraph which makes the /kw/ sound as in quick in phonics this week. For reading children will have paired and Individual reading this week where they will read to their reading partner. We will be doing Reading 1 and Reading 2 MAP tests this week. In Mathematics we will be looking at patterns in even-and-odd number representations on dominoes. Children will use partsand-total diagrams to find the total numbers of dots on the dominoes. Children will then play domino Top-It to practice finding sums of dots. We will have a Progress check to assess our progress in Unit 3. We will then begin Unit 4 where children will learn about the daily Math Message which is displayed in the class and they will have to complete a task each day. We will then review thermometers and learn to read temperatures to the nearest two degrees. This week in our UOI Presentations are a powerful tool to describe artifacts and celebrations. We will be making an inquiry into the elements that make up a poster and using this information to make our own personal celebration posters. Children will continue to develop and use the Learner Profiles in their learning. Have a wonderful week from the Grade 1 team.
