Sliding Racer Contest

Goal: Each person will have one wooden block to turn in to a sliding racer. We will randomly set up a class bracket and compete to find a class champion! Rules: 1. Each student will complete their own project. 2. Each student will receive only 1 block. (If you damage or lose it you are on your own!) 3. Projects may not be altered once they have been turned in. (If they break in the first match then they must compete broken for the remainder of the competition.) 4. The mass of your racer must not exceed 200 g. 5. Racers may not roll or have wheels of any kind. 6. No propellant or launcher may be used. (Project must slide on its own down an inclined plane.) 7. No animals may be used. 8. Projects must fit within a 4x6 inch index card. 9. No sea shells. 10. No residue can be left on the track. 11. One side of block must remain unaltered in any way. Note: Any racer that does not adhere to all of the rules will be disqualified and not receive credit. Contest: Numbers will be drawn to randomly assign seeds. The two competing racers will be placed next to each other on the incline plane. I will place a ruler in front of the racers to hold them in place. The race begins when the ruler is lifted and the first racer to the end wins. This process will continue until a class champion is found. I am in charge of determining the winner of each match and may request a re-match at my discretion. Grading: Grades will be determined based on the standards below. PJ3.1 Racer meets all rules and is completed on time along with the racer reflection form. PJ3.2 Racer slides on its own on incline. Reassessment on PJ3.2 Any racer that does NOT slide will have the opportunity to reassess and get credit for the standard.
