My fix was to buy some adhesive-back rubber strips.

Specifically, I ordered part number 8463K662 from McMaster-Carr for $13... mcmas ter.com (wfs). That'll get you a 2" x 36" strip of ultra-strength neoprene rubbe r that's 1/8" thick. Durometer hardness is 60 (medium hard), which is the same a s most horse stall mats. I used a box cutter to split it lengthwise, then used shears to cut those in hal f. That yields 4 strips of 1" x 18". You'd only need 2 of those. Peel the adhesi ve backing off, and lay it on the top of the arms (arm surface is 1.5" x 19.5" b y the way).
