Note: Vista does not have an uninstall option in add/remove programs, upgrade is permanent.

The Problem:
We could have simply booted from the other OS and deleted the folder Vista Resides in. But,
the problem is the Vista Boot Loader (Menu), which does not disappear and prevents the
system from booting.
Our objective is to restore the boot menu of our previous OS (XP say). We can then delete the
Vista Files manually.
For removing Windows Vista from a Dual Boot System, we have a couple of methods

Method 1: Using Fixboot & Fixmbr (Requires the Windows XP Bootable

Installation CD)

» Boot from Your XP Installation Disc

» Press R when it asks of repairing using ‘Recovery Console’
» Select the required OS from the list (by default enter 1 here)
» Give the Administrator Password (if any)
» Now, type FIXBOOT or FIXBOOT C: and press enter
» Next type FIXMBR, read serious warning messages and press Y to continue
» Exit and reboot.
» Finally edit Boot.ini and delete line with "Vista" on it and delete the folder Vista resides in

Method 2: Using the Vista Installation Disc

» Boot your computer in to Windows XP

» Ensure you have the Vista DVD in the DVD drive
» Go to “Start” and “Run”. Type in X:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force (Replace X with the
drive letter of your Vista DVD)
» Restart the computer, and you will notice the boot selection menu is gone.
» Format the partition/drive where you had Vista installed or Delete the Vista Files
» Remove two files (Boot.BAK & Bootsect.BAK) on your XP root folder (C :)
» And now you have returned your computer to its previous state, without Vista and without the
new bootloader
