LITERACY
Comparing and contrasting the adventures and experiences of characters in stories. We will use Venn diagrams to chart differences and similarities within books, and within two texts. Asking and answering questions about key details in a text. Writing narratives, and opinion pieces. Describing characters, settings, and major events in a story. Distinguishing long from short vowels. Isolating and pronouncing sounds in single syllable spoken words, and knowing common vowel teams. Knowing and applying grade-level phonics and high frequency words. Use common, proper, and possessive nouns; pronouns, adjectives; conjunctions; determiners; verbs/ and prepositions. This weeks phonics: Adding ed, and ing to words (jogging, planned); verbs for past and for future (walked, will walk); r controlled ar as in artist.
Adding and subtracting within 20. Adding and subtracting quickly within 10. Comparing two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of the comparisons with the symbols <, >, and =. Ordering three objects by length; comparing the lengths of two objects indirectly using a third object. Measuring the length of an object using a unit (i.e. snap cubes, pencils, etc.) The pencil is five cubes long. Telling and writing time to the hour and the half hour. Continuing counting to 120, and representing, writing, and reading numbers up to 100.
I value other peoples strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other peoples ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than anyone of us can alone. I am humble.
