PRESS RELEASE
Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr. reports that a home health aide has been arrested on charges of allegedly stealing from a client that she was hired to care for. On Thursday January 30, 2014, members of the Albany County Sheriffs Criminal Investigation Unit arrested Krystal Jane Hartley (27), a resident of Green Island and at the time an employee of Adept Health Care, located in the City of Troy. The case originated when a resident of the Village of Green Island noticed several fraudulent charges made on her Pioneer Master Card and contacted the Green Island Police Department to report that her identity had been stolen. The Green Island Police Department contacted Sheriffs Investigators when they realized that the fraud had occurred in several areas located outside their jurisdiction. The victim reported that her home aid had used her credit card from January 1, 2014 through January 7, 2014, and that the fraudulent purchases were made at Dave and Busters restaurant at Crossgates Mall in the Town of Guilderland, McDonalds restaurant in the City of Watervliet, Walmart in the Town of Colonie and Juniors Corner Store located in the Village of Green Island. The total dollar amount that was charged to the victims credit card was $441.28. Sheriffs Investigators received video surveillance from Dave and Busters showing Krystal Hartley purchasing items at their store with the victims credit card. Krystal Hartley turned herself into Sheriffs Investigators with her attorney and was processed and arraigned in the Town of Guilderland Court. She was charged with Forgery in the 2nd degree, a Class D felony, Identity Theft in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor and Petit Larceny, a class A misdemeanor. Hartley was arraigned in the Town of Guilderland Court by the Honorable Judge Richard Sherwood and was released on her own recognizance. The Albany County Sheriffs Office is asking that anyone who might have had contact with Ms. Hartley through Adept Health Care and believe that they might have been a victim of identity theft is encouraged to contact the Albany County Sheriffs Office at (518)765-2351.
