PRESS RELEASE OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE STOP-DWI ENFORCEMENT SUPER BOWL CRACKDOWN Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr. and Albany County STOP-DWI Administrator Sergeant Martin Zaloga today announce the latest countywide STOP-DWI enforcement crackdown. The crackdown will coincide with this weekends NFL Super Bowl, which is one of Americas most highly anticipated sporting events. As Super Bowl Sunday approaches and football fans across Albany County prepare for the game, our STOP-DWI Program and local law enforcement have teamed up to spread the message about designating a sober driver on Super Bowl Sunday. We understand that friends and family will gather in homes, bars and restaurants to celebrate, Sheriff Apple said We just want everyone to make the right decision and not drink and drive. The New York State Police, Albany County Sheriffs Office and eleven municipal police agencies within Albany County will participate in the DWI Blanket Patrol. Each agency will have special DWI enforcement patrols to help ensure that our roadways will be safe during the Super Bowl weekend. Albany County has been holding dedicated DWI blanket patrols since 1989 and although all of these patrols are not announced to the public, it was decided that this patrol would be announced as part of an educational campaign to deter the public from driving impaired. Albany County STOP-DWI would like to remind residents of the following Super Bowl party tips: Make sure all your guests designate a sober driver in advance, or arrange for alternate transportation to ensure they get home safely; Serve food and include non-alcoholic beverages at the party; Stop serving alcohol at the end of the third quarter and begin serving coffee and dessert; Keep the numbers for local cab companies handy, and take the keys away from anyone who has had too much to drink.
