The Cay Final Assignment

1. Imagine that you are an illustrator. Create a book cover for The Cay that
you feel represents the themes and content of the novel.
Criteria: Theme matches the novel /2 Thought and effort Big, Bright, Bold, Beautiful /2 /2

2. What do you think is the main theme, or message, of this book? Write several paragraphs about what you think the main theme is and why you believe so. Please give evidence from the novel, including page numbers.

3. Continue the story about Phillips life after he returns home and what he does when he grows up. (about 1-2 pages)
Criteria: Organized thoughts (makes sense) /3 Capitals and punctuation /3

4. Diorama Re-create a scene from the novel. You will need a small box (shoe box) to house your creation. You will also need to write a paragraph describing why you chose the particular scene.
Criteria: Plan (sketched and approved) /2

All components will be due on February 14, 2014

On most days, our usual Daily 5 time will be used to work on these 4 components of the assignment. Students are encouraged to be selfdirected and motivated and should ensure that they use their time wisely and come with all materials they need. I will provide paper, paints, plasticine etc, but each student will need a shoebox for their Diorama. All written work is to be typed, printed and stapled together with the novel cover as the first page. All components will be due on February 14, 2014.
