The Wish Connection

Wish of the Month

Kaylee Baker, 3 years old, fairytale dreams come true
Three year-old Kaylee Baker had three specific wishes and because of Wishing Star, they all came true. Kaylee was diagnosed with neuroblastoma with an inoperable tumor on her spine in October 2012. Her wishes were humbling for a little girl. Instead of going to Disneyland like many other childrens wishes, she wanted Disneyland to come to her. Wish Conductors, Tracie Husted and Bonnie Smith, worked with the family for two months leading up to the official event held at the DoubleTree Hotel on February 25th, 2013. The planning process for the event was so fun and easy, because Kaylee and her family trusted us to make her day as special as possible so we decided to go all out, said Smith.

More inside!

When the family arrived to the hotel, they were welcomed with food, drinks, flowers, balloons and a royal wardrobe to fit the whole family all in a Presidential suite on the 15th floor. The next step was to get all the girls ready for their princess debut. A hair and makeup stylist primped and manicured the girls of Kaylees family. Once Kaylee was dressed in her Cinderella gown, white gloves, jewelry, glass slippers and a tiara, she made her way to the horse drawn carriage passing the flashing lights of her own paparazzi. The carriage was waiting to take her to a ball at the Masonic Center.
Arriving at the ball, they were welcomed by servicemen and servicewomen of the United States military lining a red carpet. They raised their swords as the family walked down the carpet to the front doors. As they approached the doors, a Prince Charming and eleven Disney Princesses waited for Kaylee. Prince Charming asked for the first dance, the first of many in a dance-filled evening. Her night was a dream come true, complete with a limousine driving her home. The whole night was filled with magic. Kaylee has not stopped talking about it since, said Kaylees mother Patty Baker.

Recovering Cancer Patient Wins State Soccer Championship

Lisa Murphy, a recovering leukemia patient, who was granted a wish in 2005, has won the Washington State Soccer Championship with her school, University High. Lisa was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 7 and has fought through ever since. Wishing Star sent her to Disneyland with her family in December of 2005 at the age of 10. Now a senior in high school, Lisa, has recovered well after removing her two tumors over her life span. I cant wait to go to college next year at Gonzaga and study biology, said Lisa. Although she will not be playing soccer for the school, show hopes to be on the club team.

Volunteer Spotlight!
Ned and Lyn Meller have been apart of the Wishing Star Family since 2004. Their granddaughter Justyn, had been diagnosed with Wilms tumor in the brain. Their granddaughters wish was to go to Disneyland and her wish was granted in 2005. They have been involved in various fundraisers over the years as well as family activities with their own family. They really became involved when Wish A Week campaign was started. They were inspired to do more than a monthly online donation. Since October 2010, Ned and Lynn have each come into the office one day a week to do accounting and book keeping tasks. Because of their help Wishing Star has saved over $4000 in costs. Ned and Lynn--thank you for your help and your enthusiasm in the office. We appreciate the support!
