Non-Continuous Verbs The group called "Non-Continuous Verbs," is smaller.

These verbs are usually things you cannot see somebody doing. These verbs are rarely used in continuous tenses. They include: Abstract Verbs to be, to want, to cost, to seem, to need, to care, to contain, to owe, to exist... Possession Verbs to possess, to own, to belong... Emotion Verbs to like, to love, to hate, to dislike, to fear, to envy, to mind... Examples:
He is needing help now. Not Correct He needs help now. Correct He is wanting a drink now. Not Correct He wants a drink now. Correct

Here are more examples: I want a coffee. I don't believe you are right. not I am wanting a coffee. not I am not believing you are right.

Does this pen belong to you? not Is this pen belonging to you? It seemed wrong. I don't hear anything. not It was seeming wrong. not I am not hearing anything.

Notice that we often use can + see/hear:

I can see someone in the distance. (not I am seeing someone in the distance.) I can't hear you very well. (not I am not hearing you very well.)
