ALTERNATIVE SENTENCING PROGRAM (ASP)

Benefit #3: The Alternative Sentencing Program focuses on the offenders and their readiness for rehabilitation through the application of evidence

The ASP program at time has been the tiebreaker when we, the prosecutors is undecided if we should go with a pure prison/jail sentence or probation with program conditions.

How It works The Alternative Sentencing Program assists prosecutors in the identification of safe, effective sanctions that will address the offenders criminogenic needs and help advance public safety.

In consultation with the prosecutors, the Alternative Sentencing Planner reviews all details of the case including mitigating information.

Evaluate defendants eligibility for alternative sentencing. Determine when a specialized program is appropriate and/or necessary. Serve as a resource regarding the effectiveness of specific reentry programs.

To ensure that defendants criminogenic needs are properly addressed, the Alternative Sentencing Program conducts an in depth pre-plea interview with the defendant addressing risk and stabilizing factors for reentry. All interviews are conducted in the presence of the defense counsel. Alternative Sentencing Program is able to offer reliable recommendations to the prosecutors thanks to its public and private partnerships with community based organizations, drug treatment programs, work force development agencies, mental health services, and others.
