Procedure Anticipatory Set: o (Direct instruction) Explain that we are going to be practicing stretching our words but first we are going to practice first. I will say a word and the students are expected to stretch the word out to spell it correctly. Give an example. o Explain what is expected and the rules of the tools being used. o Hand out a white board, marker, slinky, and eraser to each student. o (Guided Practice) Say a word for students to stretch out. o Once the students spell out the word, have each student hold up white board to display their answer. o Discuss the correct answer. o Repeat steps 4-6 for a few examples. o Collect materials (except for slinky). Independent practice: o Show students the stretching worksheet and explain the directions. o Pass out worksheet. o Have students independently work on paper. o When students are finished, they will turn the paper in and quietly read a book basket. Evaluation: o I will be able to evaluate students understanding by looking at their white boards during guided practice. Along with this, I will be able to check the handouts for understanding.
